This is a plain-language guide to checking peptide care offers in South Florida. It provides reading help, rather than appointments or treatment. Here, “functional medicine” is the name used for the care a practice advertises, not the name of a particular medicine. Our sources do not define a standard visit under that name. Ask the practice what happens at its visit and how it differs from seeing your usual doctor. Keep this word Peptide A chain of amino acids, the small units that also build proteins. Read the card A word is only the beginning A peptide links amino acids, the small units from which proteins are built. The US medicine agency (FDA) on compounding The useful next question is the name of the proposed medicine. Write it down exactly. Ask what problem it is meant to address. Read the peptide card A short definition, then the question that matters. Keep the product and the promise separate Compounded means a pharmacy or another qualified maker prepares a medicine from ingredients, rather than supplying an approved finished product. Telehealth is care at a distance: by phone, through a video call or using an online form. Ask how you will speak with the person deciding on your care. Unpack compounded Who makes the preparation, and what has been reviewed. Read a treatment claim Look for a study that actually asks your question. Take the question into the visit A useful conversation has room for your aim, your concerns and the option to pause. Bring a written question rather than trying to remember every new term. What is the exact treatment being proposed? What evidence fits my problem? Who will answer me after the visit? Make a visit note Questions to take into a room or onto a screen. Keep this word A term card One word, its meaning, and a useful next question. Read the card Read from the offer in front of you Circle the word you could not explain to someone else. Begin there. There is no need to read every card before asking a question. A practice may describe its care as “functional medicine”. That name alone does not tell you what will happen at your visit. Ask what the visit includes and how it differs from seeing your usual doctor. This guide covers peptide treatment offers. Its recorded sources do not define a standard functional medicine visit. Keep the proposed treatment name beside the practice’s explanation. Follow the words in this order Peptide What the substance is called. Approval What was reviewed for a particular use. Compounding How a preparation differs from a finished drug product. Prescription How the prescriber decides whether a medicine fits you. Turn a term into a question Try this on your visit note: “When you use that word, what does it mean for the treatment being offered to me?” Ask for the answer in ordinary words. Then ask for the written name and the source behind the claim. Keep the wording. It makes the next conversation easier to follow. Care notes from the US medicine agency (FDA) Keep the chemical word separate from the claim in an advert. Ask for the full name of the substance being discussed. The word does not settle the status The September 2026 sources describe peptide medicines with approval, pharmacy preparations made for a patient, and other products that lack approval. FDA on the different kinds of preparation Making a medicine to order from ingredients is called compounding. A compounded medicine lacks FDA approval, but can be lawful when the compounding rules are met. Unapproved means the FDA has not approved that product. It does not, by itself, tell you whether this particular offer meets the law. That is why “it is a peptide” is an incomplete answer to a question about a particular offer. The named product is the thing to discuss. Ask about your aim What is the full medicine name? What change are we trying to achieve? What study supports that change for people with my problem? Keep this word FDA approval A review of a medicine for a stated use. Read the card Ask which product and which use FDA is short for Food and Drug Administration. The agency’s approval remit Approval means the agency has reviewed a particular product for a stated use, rather than endorsing every use of a peptide. FDA explains approval Give the proposed drug its own line on your note. On the next line, put the reason for proposing it. Registration puts a business on a record Registration means a business has entered FDA’s records; the rule checked in September 2026 says this does not approve the business or its medicines. The federal registration rule Registration alone does not show that a product can lawfully be sold, and presenting it as approval is misleading. Ask what was actually reviewed or inspected and where the findings are recorded. The word registered alone does not answer those questions. A directory code is not a verdict NDC stands for National Drug Code, an identifier in a drug directory; the code carries no approval, FDA says in the September 2026 record. FDA on misleading approval claims If the medicine is made to order from ingredients by a pharmacy or another qualified maker, it is called compounded. Which exact product has approval? For what use was it reviewed? Would I receive the approved product itself, or would a pharmacy prepare a version for me? Keep this word Compounding Making a medicine to order from ingredients. Read the card What the word describes A pharmacist, doctor or registered facility can prepare a drug from ingredients; this process is called compounding. Compounding notes from the US medicine agency (FDA) A useful next question is why this preparation is being proposed for your particular need. What the word does not promise For compounded drugs, FDA does not review how safe, effective or well made they are before sale; they are unapproved, as of September 2026. FDA on compounded-drug risks That distinction applies to the preparation itself. A licence or a badge answers another question. Why pharmacy labels differ 503A names the part of federal law for making medicine for an individual patient; the September 2026 rules require a valid prescription identifying that patient. FDA on medicine made for a named patient A prescription is only part of the check: the raw drug ingredient must also meet the legal ingredient tests. An ingredient with a published drug-quality standard has to meet that standard. Where no standard is published, it must either be part of an approved drug or have a place on FDA’s list of extra allowed ingredients. FDA’s tests for a pharmacy’s raw ingredients Ask the pharmacy whether it makes your medicine under 503A and which ingredient test it meets. You do not have to work it out from a shop sign. 503B is another part of federal law: in September 2026, it allowed registered makers called outsourcing facilities to prepare batches without naming each patient in a prescription. FDA on facilities that make batches The batches are sterile, meaning free of living germs. These facilities often supply clinics and hospitals. The batch-making rule does not remove your own prescription requirement when the medicine is a prescription drug. Ask about the pharmacy Get the maker’s name before checking its records. Keep this word Prescription A licensed prescriber’s order for a medicine. Read the card The order has a person behind it For a prescription medicine, federal law requires a licensed practitioner’s prescription before dispensing, as recorded in September 2026. The federal prescription requirement Ask who will make the care decision. Write down that person’s name rather than only the name of the website or building. Choosing from a menu cannot replace a care decision A menu choice made by a patient cannot, by itself, support prescribing, says guidance adopted by the medical boards’ federation in May 2026. Medical boards’ prescribing guidance Doctors’ licensing and discipline are handled by state bodies; the Federation of State Medical Boards is their national group. Its advice helps those bodies consider care standards; it does not create Florida law. A medical assessment means finding out about your health before deciding on care. Ask whether the decision needs a conversation, your medical records, tests or an examination. Its advice also calls for a way for you to ask your own questions and get answers from the clinician after the first discussion. The guidance on asking questions Make room for another answer Ask what the clinician would consider if the proposed treatment did not fit. Leave space in your notes for a different plan, more information or a decision to wait. What have you learned about my health that supports this plan? What information is still missing? Have the proposed medicine name, your current medicine list and your main concern beside you. Decide what you want to understand before the conversation ends. Florida still matters Routine remote care for a patient in Florida needs state authorisation through a licence or the out-of-state telehealth registration route, as of September 2026. Florida’s telehealth information Under Florida’s rules checked in September 2026, a remote visit must meet the same care standard as an in-person visit. Florida’s telehealth statute The clinician’s record of remote care must meet the recordkeeping rules used when you visit in person. Ask how a screen visit becomes an examination The Federation of State Medical Boards gives prescribers this advice when a test or examination is needed: arrange it, or refer you to someone who can. Medical boards’ telemedicine policy This group advises the state bodies that license doctors. Its advice is not a national law, so ask which Florida rule applies to the care you need. Who arranges an examination if it is needed? How will a question reach the clinician once the call ends? What happens if I am in a different state for a later visit? Keep this word A healing claim Ask whether the result was shown in people with your condition. Read the card Name the substance The lab-made peptide BPC-157 has 15 amino acids and is based on a protein fragment reported in stomach juice. Substance review from the US medicine agency (FDA) FDA’s finding, checked September 28, 2026, was that no country had an approved medicine containing BPC-157. FDA’s approval finding Ask what the human work can answer In its review available in September 2026, FDA found five human studies of BPC-157; only two included a comparison group. FDA’s review of human studies Without a comparison group in the knee-pain report, a reported improvement cannot establish a treatment effect from BPC-157. The published knee report A comparison group gives researchers another group to compare with the people receiving the treatment. Withdrawn is not a green light The requests to let pharmacies use BPC-157 as an ingredient were taken back by the groups seeking permission; FDA records them as withdrawn on a page marked current on April 22, 2026. FDA’s record of the withdrawn requests The page still records FDA’s safety concerns. Withdrawn describes the requests, not the removal of an approved medicine from sale. As checked in September 2026, withdrawing the request did not approve BPC-157 or make it meet the ingredient tests for a pharmacy preparing medicine for a named patient. FDA’s rules for raw drug ingredients A prescription does not make that ingredient meet those tests. The recorded FDA findings do not provide a lawful basis for making BPC-157 this way. Different chemical versions of an ingredient may share the name BPC-157; FDA treats BPC-157 and BPC-157 acetate as different ingredients. This question concerns the ingredient itself. Ask separately whether you would get tablets or an injection. Which human evidence fits the problem being treated? What is the full ingredient name, including words such as acetate? Form on medicine paperwork means how it is supplied, such as a tablet or a shot. Ask which one you would receive and why it is being offered. Compounded and generic are different terms No approved, marketable US generic of semaglutide or tirzepatide existed at the September 26, 2026 check. FDA application records A medicine mixed or made to order is called compounded; these medicines had no FDA approval at the September 2026 check. FDA on compounded preparations Ask for a clear answer if the word generic is being used to describe a compounded version. Ask what supports a compounded offer At the September 2026 check, neither semaglutide nor tirzepatide appeared on FDA’s national shortage list. Neither was on FDA’s allowed raw-ingredient list for large registered batch makers. FDA’s compounding update The bulk-ingredient list names raw drug ingredients that large registered batch makers may use; the shortage list records national medicine shortages. Because neither medicine was on either list, those batch makers could not rely on either list to make it from raw ingredients. Your local pharmacy running out does not create a national shortage or reopen that permission to make copies. Ask the prescriber and pharmacist how to find the approved medicine or consider another treatment. For any made-to-order offer, ask which rule allows that particular preparation. Treat an unknown as an unknown In September 2026, FDA found too little information from people given BPC-157 to tell what harm it might cause. FDA on the limits of the human data Short, small studies with limited monitoring cannot establish that BPC-157 is safe. Read FDA’s review Which effects have actually been studied? What is still unknown for this product? Who will handle a concern after the visit? Keep urgent help separate from a follow-up message Trouble breathing or a swollen tongue can signal a severe allergic emergency; NIH’s health information service MedlinePlus directs calling 911 for severe symptoms. MedlinePlus on severe allergic reactions For the routine follow-up plan, ask for the contact method before leaving the visit. When research wording is used as reassurance In letters recorded in September 2026, FDA said sellers’ claims about benefits for people could make a product subject to human-drug law despite a research-only label. Reasoning from the US medicine agency (FDA) That means the seller must meet the rules for medicines for people; it does not give permission to use the product as a treatment. The letter records an allegation by the agency; it is not a judgment from a court. What does that label mean for the product being offered? Where is the evidence for the proposed use? When a compounded drug is called approved Compounded means made to order from ingredients by a pharmacy or another qualified maker. Compounded preparations had no FDA approval at the September 2026 check, even when the compounder itself was registered. FDA on compounding and approval Ask for an answer about the preparation itself. A business registration does not resolve that question. For a Florida practitioner or pharmacy A signed written complaint can go to Florida’s health department about a licensed clinician or pharmacy, under the process checked September 2026. Florida’s online complaint route Florida’s health department deals with licence concerns; it cannot win back fees or settle a bill dispute, as checked in September 2026.
